THE CLOCK STARTS TOMORROW

On Wednesday a 45 day clock may start to tick away the disgraceful career of State Senator Louis DeLuca, R-Woodbury. As you may recall Senator Deluca approached a well known mobster to threaten his granddaughter's husband. The Senate is required to meet within 10 days and will have 45 days to come to a decision .

They are scheduled to convene at noon Wednesday to create an unprecedented Bipartisan Committee of Review to examine DeLuca's actions and consider a reprimand, censure, expulsion or no action.

The panel will review the public record in the DeLuca case and conduct no investigation, unless it pursues a recommendation of expulsion. The committee at its option can do further examination and investigation and request more resources and would be expected to do so in the case of expulsion. We got to this point when Senator DeLuca, 74, pleaded guilty on June 4 to a misdemeanor charge of conspiring to commit a threat, admitting he had asked a trash hauler, James Galante, to intimidate his granddaughter's husband, whom DeLuca suspected of being abusive. How and why this is a misdemeanor is stunning.
