IS THE RIGHT WING CONTROLLING THE BOARD OF EDUCATION

This is a serious question given the make up and the political power of one member in particular. Brad Tobin a former Republican candidate for Mayor and well known Bush supporter is a current member on the Board of Education. What is disturbing is his socially conservative views that are now translating into a dress code that make no senses. Mr. Tobin’s supports the new policy of making students wear scrubs commonly worn by doctors and nurses at Griffin Hospital if they come to school wearing reveling clothing. Now the policy may have come from the Superintendent but Mr. Tobin ever the astute Republican Conservative could not help himself and essentially tied himself to the policy in an article in the Connecticut Post.

We have seen these right wing extremist bypass other reasonable ideas on a national level such as universal healthcare provided by private insurance carriers but administered under a bidding process set up by the federal government that would bring down cost of health care. No can’t do that lets do nothing the Republicans say. In the case of Derby it is clear that the best course of action is to bring back the original dress code that was around for decades. This code essentially called for casual dress pants for boys and girls and prohibited jeans. The code also consisted of dress shirts with collars, no sneakers, no tee shirts.

It was in essence business casual. This would eliminate the issue of reveling tops on young women, baggy and falling down jeans and other stylish expressions that have gotten Mr. Tobin and the extreme Right in a tizzy. No he wants to force the students to wear hospital garb. The original dress code would pass muster to a court challenge because it gives complete freedom of expression just set some reasonable guidelines. Not only that it will take away the discussion from this stupid issue and refocus it on where it should be, on math, science and languages but it will silence Mr. Derby Conservative Brad “I Love Bush” Tobin. Remember the right wing has a master plan. They get people elected to school boards, then build a farm team that runs for higher office. At some point you looking at the ballot and my God there is Brad Tobin for President. Lets pay attention to the true intentions of these people before we actually elect them.
