As a person who was never viewed by his friends growing up as a political animal, Republican Alderman Joe Bomba has over seen a reformation of the Republican party in Derby. Yes he has been helped by an inept cast of Democratic characters that have alienated party loyalist such as Mike Kelleher, Mel Thompson and Joe Moore, but he was smart enough to exploit the stupidity of the Democratic Town Committee. Lets face it on a local level Republicans in Derby would not get elected in the bible belt.
It seems that the core issue with them ( and a strong one) is taxes. If Alderman Bomba can pull off another victory with at least Mayor Staffieri winning and four Republican seats on the Board of Alderman, he will have effectively forced the Democrats to retool and finally accept the fact that the people they have disavowed were the best and brightest and the most honest compared with the current Democratic Town Committee make up of has-beens, fools and the chronically under employed. The Republican would be wise to support their chairman because he has done a good job for them.
