WHAT IF THE REPUBLICANS WIN AGAIN?

What will the impact be on the Democratic party in Derby if the Republicans sweep again? If either Orazietti, Weissman or Thompson win you will have a Democrat. Thompson although running a an independent has made it clear he is a Democrat, will govern as one if he wins and has been the only candidate pushing truly Democratic positions such as strong schools and targeted tax cuts. The problem for the Democratic party is not Mr. Thompson although they would like to think so the problem is if the Republicans win again with no boogey man in the form of former corrupt, do nothing Marc Garofalo to run against.Wining on a platform that is empty in a city with only 800 Republicans and 3 times as many Democrats will mean that the Democratic party is crippled.

Now this to shall pass but the Republicans winning last time is understandable but this time it will be harder for the party to explain to the state party leadership.Last time the state party pleaded with former Chairman Sam Rizzitelli to accept help but he declined and the Democrats backing the good for nothing Marc Garofalo lost every seat accept one aldermanic seat. Now you have Dina Weissman under cutting the town Chairman John Orazietti, and Orazietti rigging the endorsement process so as to keep Mel Thompson out of his own party.

They better win and big because the only people who are going to come out of this unscathed ( politically) are the Mayor and Mr. Thompson not Chairman John Orazietti and to a lesser extent Ms. Weissman. The party will be effectively out of business at a time when two parties ( or more) and opposing poicy views will be needed. Derby is entering a new phase that is uncharted and it ill afford one party rule that is unchallenged.
